Now in its 23rd year, the prestigious NVTC Greater Washington Technology CFO Awards recognize chief financial officers for extraordinary achievement and excellence in promoting the development of the Greater Washington region’s technology community. An independent panel of community leaders will select the winners for each of the following four categories based on your nominations.


PUBLIC COMPANY CFO OF THE YEAR

Presented to a chief financial officer for outstanding contributions to his or her public company’s performance and accomplishments from January 2018 to the present.

The Public Company CFO of the Year is:
  • A key contributor to strategy formulation
  • Acknowledged for credibility in rendering objective assessments, advice and counsel to the board of directors, senior executives and the financial community
  • An effective leader in financial aspects of operational execution supporting strategic direction
  • A confidant to the CEO
  • Adept at raising capital / cash management
  • An outstanding team builder
  • An extraordinary performer in difficult circumstances
  • Customer service-oriented
  • Integral in major project implementation
  • A key player in mergers or acquisitions
  • An integral part of deal negotiations
  • Successful in heightening the company’s public image
  • Ability to adapt to changing economic conditions


PRIVATE COMPANY CFO OF THE YEAR

Presented to a chief financial officer for outstanding contributions to his or her private company’s performance and accomplishments from January 2018 to the present. For consideration, a company must have been privately held on or before December 31, 2018. The Private Company CFO of the Year contributes to his or her company’s performance and accomplishments consistent with the Public Company CFO of the Year award criteria as described herein.

EMERGING GROWTH CFO OF THE YEAR

Presented to a chief financial officer for outstanding contributions to his or her emerging company’s performance and accomplishments from January 2018 to the present. For consideration, a company must have revenue under $50 million for the year that ended on December 31, 2018. The Emerging Growth CFO of the Year contributes to his or her company’s performance and accomplishments consistent with the Public Company CFO of the Year award criteria as described herein.

RISING STAR AWARD

This award will recognize a rising star for outstanding contributions as part of the financial team, with primary focus on performance and accomplishments from January 2018 to the present. A rising star should have enough experience and seniority to have a significant enterprise-level impact, through his or her contributions. They have demonstrated the following criteria:
  • Being part of the team – collaborative, excels in providing leadership that was key in any of the following areas:
    • Align or drive key strategy
    • Applying analytics or technology that get beyond data and provide insights that lead to action
    • Partner with Operations to help drive success
    • Develop and motivate staff to ensure the team continues to grow in excellence
  • Eagerness for development, shows innovation and initiative
  • Contributes to the industry and/or their community
  • Ability to adapt in high growth and changing environments
  • Communicates effectively with Exec team, other employees, shareholders and Board of Directors, and customers
  • Likelihood for future success in leadership role


TRANSFORMATIONAL CFO OF THE YEAR AWARD

Presented to a chief financial officer for outstanding contributions to his or her company’s performance and accomplishments from January 2018 to the present. For consideration, a company must have revenue over $50 million for the year that ended on December 31, 2018 and been in business for at least 5 years.

The Transformational CFO of the Year has several of the following attributes:
  • Key partner to the CEO and management team
  • Strategy development to drive strong revenue growth
  • Successful integration of a transformative acquisition
  • Successful operational turnaround
  • Successful implementation of a complex business system
  • Successful expansion into new markets (e.g., international)
  • Operational efficiency success – driving margin growth
  • Compensation (e.g., sales) plan success
  • IPO or transactional readiness prep
  • Successful tax strategy deployment
  • Team building, culture enhancement and succession planning







Nominations are due by March 1, 2019 at 5:00 pm.

Your nomination will provide the basis for the Selection Committee's choice of award finalists. The most effective nominations will include a brief company description, a summary of the company's performance, highlights of the nominee's accomplishments during the period from January 2018 to the present, a letter from the CEO and audit chair (for the Public Company award) in support of the nominee and a detailed explanation of how the individual meets or surpasses the criteria.
